Co-ordination means the orderly execution of the activities.
Unlike animals plants do not have a nervous system or muscular system. The movements executed by plants are mainly in response to the stimulus. In certain sensitive plants like Mimosa movement is in the response of stimulus of touch. This type of movement is called Seismonastic movement.
plants exhibit two types of movement:
- GROWTH DEPENDENT
- GROWTH INDEPENDENT
- GROWTH DEPENDENT:
The movement or growth of any plant in response to external stimulus is called Tropism or tropic movement.
The root system grows beneath the ground i.e. it
responds to the stimulus of gravity and water,
these responses are called Gravitropic
and Hydro tropic movements.

Chemotriopic movement is the movement of the plant in response to certain chemicals Eg. The growth of pollen tube towards the ovules.

Abscissic acid
|
It helps the tip of shoot cells to grow longer.
|
It promotes cell division in fruits and seeds.
|
It helps in the growth of the stems.

It inhibits growth leading to wilting of leaves

2. GROWTH INDEPENDENT:
Certain movements of plants of plants do not result in their growth and are termed as growth independent movements. Hormones bring about various movements in plants in response to the changes occurring in the surroundings. On close observations we see that movements also happen at different places from the place of touch .so we conclude that the information that a touch has occurred must have been communicated.
THE PLANTS USE ELECTROCHEMICAL MEANS TO TRANSFER INFORMATION FROM ONE CELL TO ANOTHER AS THERE IS NO SPECIALISED TISSUE FOR THE CONDUCTION OF INFORMATION.
Plants that carry growth independent movements are :
- Lotus opens in daytime and Tuberose in nighttime.
- Venus Flytrap attracts insects by its trap when they land on it thereby triggering hairs which slams the trap shut and they are then digested by the plant.
